Stairs to Ancestry

Chand Baori stepwell is the oldest and one of the most attractive spots in Rajasthan. It was built with about 3500 stone steps, 1200 years ago! You can walk down these steps 100 feet into the bottom to treat yourself with a gulp of cool water.

The Cultural Nexus

Chand Baori was built by King Chanda of the Nikumbha dynasty as a means to conserve water in the scorching summers of Rajasthan. Villagers used to gather around the stepwell to collect water and formed a thriving community around it. Chand Baori is well decorated with flowers and lamps during local festivals such as Abhaneri.

The Dark Knight Connection

Remember that scene from The Dark Knight Rises where Bruce Wayne escapes from Bane’s prison? It was shot here! The Akshay Kumar starrer Bhool Bhulaiyaa was also filmed in this location.
